Trinco

3 days in Trincomalee: The quick guide

The peaceful and beautiful coastline of 'Trinco', as the local call it, was our first taste of Sri Lanka’s beaches.

The small town of Trincomalee placidly sits on the shores of the Indian Ocean, on Sri Lanka's east coast. Offering wide golden beaches flanked by carpets of palm trees and turquoise waters. In town, you will find a few sights worth exploring and bustling village life split between the central market and the busy streets.

Where to sleep in Trincomalee

Jungle Beach by Uga Escapes

A jungle hideout with a private beach and all the comforts of a luxury hotel. Jungle Beach by Uga Escapes is the perfect location to enjoy the beaches and explore the natural surroundings. The resort is composed of an open common area where the restaurant delights you with local dishes and where you can have drinks by the bar opening onto the pool. The cabanas feature a huge outside shower where you can take relaxing showers listening to the sounds of the jungle.

The resort opens on a wide private beach, with sunbeds and a beach bar, for the ultimate perfect day sunbathing. If you are looking for more adventure, the resort offers several tours and activities, including dolphin and whale watching, bicycle tours, cooking classes and more.

Our stay at Jungle Beach was wonderful. We relaxed by the beach, ate delicious food and explored the surrounding beaches.

Where to eat in Trincomalee

Around Sri Lanka, you will find that the word ‘hotel’ is used in a different way. A ‘hotel’ is a cheap eatery where, for a few euros, you will eat typical local dishes such as curry and rice, dosas, hoppers and other delicacies. Trinco has plenty of ‘hotels’ where you can grab a cheap lunch. For fresh fruits, we recommend visiting the central market.

For a sit down dinner, catch a tuck tuck to Green Park Beach Hotel, where for a very reasonable price you can eat local dishes and some indian specialities.
