We spent one month in the land of arepas and salsa and these are our five favourite places in Colombia!
Colombia stole our heart the moment we landed on its sunny shores. With it’s contagious energy, spread around at the sound of salsa, it easily became one of our favourite countries in South America, if not the number one.
From the tropical beaches of Tayrona National Park, to the historical beauty of Cartagena, there have been few places we visited were our jaws didn’t drop. And don’t even get me started with the food! The local specialities are addictive. We most definitely over indulged in arepas, empanadas, chocolate and coffee, but life is too short not to.
Here are some of the reasons why we would go back to Colombia in a heartbeat…
1. Cartagena
The gem of Colombia, the city the completely stole our hearts. We had the best time getting lost in between the colorful streets of the old town, smelling the flowers overflowing from the balconies and sipping a cocktail overlooking the Pacific ocean. The charm of Cartagena is timeless and will make you want to come back the moment you leave!
2. Salento and Cocora Valley
Coffee and palm trees, an unusual combination that makes for an incredible location. Cycling through the beautiful landscapes of Cocora Valley, with its thin, tall palms touching the clouds and endless green hills, will always be one of our fondest memories of Colombia.
3. Tayrona National Park
Tropical beaches at their finest. Turquoise blue water and white beaches, with a backdrop of thick tropical jungle filled with coconuts. Sleeping on an hammock in Cabo San Juan was an unforgettable experience (despite the actual little sleep!).
4. Palomino
Tubing down the river, while sipping on chilled beer and admiring the jungle around us was pure fun! The little beach town of Palomino offers beautiful beaches and wonderfully relaxed, artsy vibes.
5. Taganga
The simple village of Taganga will forever hold a special place in our heart as it where we had our first experience of scuba diving and did our PADI certification. An unforgettable and life changing experience!
